I am alive.
Numerous activities are going on in my body to keep me alive.
There must be a source of energy for running these activities.
This is life energy.
This life energy comes solely from the air we breathe, water we drink, and food we eat.
It means that I have to eat life, to maintain my life energy.
Our body already has an inbuilt mechanism to identify & choose the foods that provide life energy.
The sources containing life energy taste good. like fruits.
Whereas sources that do not contain life energy taste bad. Like rotten fruits.
When you eat fruits, full tummy, you feel alive. And you don't feel dull or sleepy.
But when you eat any cooked food of your choice, full tummy, you feel less alive, dull and sleepy.
Food is supposed to make you alive. Considering this, fruits are superior food as compared to cooked foods.
So, what is happening here?
There are very important differences between fruits and cooked food. Fruits are eaten fresh whereas cooked food contains older components. Fruits are unprocessed whereas cooked foods undergo multiple stages of processing. So on it goes.
One of the common processes of foods is cooking. We all are eating cooked food most of the time. There are very few people who consume more fruits than cooked food.
Now, think about the process of cooking. Let's consider the process of cooking rice. The rice is already polished and it has hardly any nutrients, except calories. The rice is mostly cooked in a pressure cooker, wherein very high temperature and pressure, further destroys whatever vitamins and proteins are there. You are left with just plain starch when you eat the rice cooked in a pressure cooker.
If this is your daily practice. If you also cook vegetables, dals and other foods in a pressure cooker, your body is not getting any nutrition at all. This is the problem with cooking foods fast on high flame or under high pressure.
How can you expect to maintain the life energy in your body?
This is one of the major reasons for deficiencies, weakness, fatigue, recurring diseases and so on we commonly see in everyone. In Fact you will eat more and more as your body craves for life energy.
The solution for this problem is SLOW COOKING.
Slow cooking preserves the nutrients.
Slow cooked food is much tastier due to higher nutritional presence.
Slow cooked food is more satisfying to eat.
The quantity of slow cooked food you eat will be lesser as it is rich.
Slow cooking reduces your cooking expenses, time and efforts.
Slow cooking is not a new thing. You do not need to learn slow cooking. Slow cooking is a traditional method.
You just have to unlearn the fast cooking practices.
Here are some slow cooking practices that Savithri has implemented over the last 6 years.
Completely stopped using the pressure cooker.
She pre-cooks dals and vegetables in a charcoal fueled steam cooker.
Millets and rice are always cooked in a charcoal fueled steam cooker. This is a smokeless cooker and can be used in modern kitchens.
If she is cooking on stove top, low flame is maintained.
Mud pots are used for making dals, vegetables, kashaya, gravies, curries etc.
She always removes the white froth that comes on top during cooking. This is phytic acid and is not digested. This causes gas and pain.
She removed the refrigerator long back.
Aluminum pots are not used.
only for frying and such other preparations needing higher flame, a high flame is maintained.
Non-stick cookware, microwave, mixer, electric cookers, air fryers and all such special equipment are not used.
Crushing and grinding is done using hand tools.
Lots of products are sold nowadays in the name of slow cooking. They are of no use.
We clearly have much higher life energy now compared to a decade ago when we were eating fast cooked foods.
