Around 2016, I started to understand that online social media websites and apps have so many dangerous consequences, if not used in a very careful way. Some of the issues I found were:
Social media algorithms reinforce extreme viewpoints.
Targeted advertising exploits user vulnerabilities.
Online harassment and cyberbullying are very common.
Echo chambers amplify misinformation and conspiracy theories.
Social media use is leads to increased anxiety and depression.
Data privacy breaches expose sensitive personal information.
Social media platforms are used for political manipulation.
The pursuit of online validation fosters insecurity.
Social media addiction disrupts sleep and focus.
Fake news spreads rapidly, eroding trust in institutions.
Online shaming and cancel culture have devastating consequences.
Social media creates unrealistic expectations about life.
Social media companies prioritize engagement over user well-being.
The spread of graphic content normalize violence.
Social media is used to facilitate human trafficking.
Online anonymity gives courage for harmful behavior.
Social media contributes to the erosion of face-to-face interaction.
Platform algorithms discriminate against certain groups, caste, class, age, gender etc.
Social media is exploited for surveillance and control.

We have closed accounts on all social media platforms and have decided to never use social media again. Except premium version of YouTube and a clean version of WhatsApp, we don’t use other social media.
Social media refers to interactive websites and applications that enable users to create and share content, participate in online communities, and build virtual networks.
Here's a breakdown of key aspects:
Types of Social Media:
Social Networking Sites: Platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn allow users to create profiles, connect with friends and family, share photos and videos, and engage in discussions.
Microblogging: Services like Twitter and X (formerly Twitter) enable users to share short, frequent updates and thoughts.

Messaging Apps: WhatsApp, Messenger, and Discord facilitate instant messaging and group chats.
Key Uses:
Connecting with Others: Social media facilitates communication and interaction with friends, family, and colleagues across distances.
Sharing Information: Users can share news, opinions, experiences, and creative content.
Building Communities: People with shared interests can connect and form online communities.
Business and Marketing: Businesses use social media for marketing, customer service, and brand building.
News and Information: Social media can be a source of news and information, although it's important to be critical of the information shared.
