If you ask me, one skill that everyone should learn, my answer is "Yogasana". Yogasana addresses all the issues in our diet, lifestyle, family life, relationships, work, ethics, parenting, healing, nation building etc. Every disease can be cured using Yogasana.

if Yogasana is so beneficial, why everyone is not learning about it? The reason is simple. There are many blind-beliefs and myths linked with Yoga. Here is a big list of myths about Yoga:


Myths Related to Physical Practice:

Yoga is only for flexible people: This is a major misconception. Yoga helps develop flexibility.

You need to be thin to do yoga: Yoga is for all body types.

Advanced poses are "better" yoga: The quality of practice matters more than the complexity of poses.

Yoga is just stretching: It combines strength, flexibility, balance, and mindfulness.

You have to be able to touch your toes: The goal is not to achieve a perfect pose, but to practice with awareness.

That all yoga is the same: There are many different styles of yoga, each with there own focuses.

That yoga is a quick fix for weight loss: Yoga can aid in weight loss when combined with a healthy lifestyle, but it is not a quick fix.

That all yoga classes are the same: Every yoga class is different, due to the different styles, and also the different teachers.

That yoga is dangerous: When practiced correctly, and with a qualified instructor, yoga is very safe.


Myths Related to Yoga's Scope:

Yoga is only about physical postures (asanas): Asanas are just one aspect of yoga, which also includes breathing (pranayama), meditation, and ethical principles.

Yoga is a religion: Yoga is a philosophy and practice, not a religion.

Yoga is only for women: Yoga is beneficial for everyone.

Yoga is always spiritual: While it can be a spiritual practice, it can also be practiced for physical and mental well-being.

Yoga is only for young people: Yoga can be practiced by people of all ages.

Yoga is too time-consuming: Even short yoga sessions can be beneficial.

That yoga is only for fancy people & Sadhus: Yoga is for everyone, regardless of their background.


Myths Related to Practice and Teachers:

Anyone can teach yoga: Qualified teachers have extensive training and knowledge. If you dont have access to teachers, you can start by seeing videos on YouTube or by reading a book.

You need expensive equipment: A yoga mat is often the only essential item.

You have to go to a studio: Yoga can be practiced at home.

You have to be a vegetarian: While many yogis choose to be vegetarian, it is not a requirement.

That yoga is competitive: Yoga is a personal practice.

That you have to wear certain clothing: Wear comfortable clothing that allows for movement.

That you have to be able to meditate perfectly: Meditation is a practice, and it takes time.

That you must always push yourself to your limits in yoga: Yoga is about listening to your body, and knowing your limits.

That you must be able to hold poses for long periods of time: The length of time you hold a pose is not as important as the quality of the pose.


By understanding these myths, you can approach yoga with a more informed and realistic perspective.


            The word "yogasana" is derived from two Sanskrit words: "yoga" meaning union or connection, and "asana" meaning posture or seat. Therefore, the literal meaning of yogasana is "a posture that facilitates union."  


However, the real meaning of yogasana goes far beyond just physical postures. It encompasses a holistic practice that integrates the body, mind, and spirit. Here are some key aspects of its deeper meaning:
