When I was in a job, I could not decide on where to build my home. Considering Transfers, promotions, ambitions, etc, it was impossible to decide the location. Hence I never bought a land. I have my home now. For my friends who are grappled with this question, I think one of the possibility is:
- Buy a small piece of farm land. Say 1/4 to 1/2 acres. It's better if it is around the place of birth. Better to be atleast 20+ kilometres away from a national highway, railway track, industrial area and taluk place. Better to be about 200+ meters from a small village. Village should have no possibility of development.
- If own land is available with these possibilities, it's even better.
- If you are afar, visit every month for a day or two. If near, visit often.
- Create a natural fence by planting green manure trees or agave trees in the first monsoon. This will keep animals and people away. These two can be grown without watering.
- Leaving space for the house and it's surrounding and for vehicle movement, densely plant (say 1000 plants) all varieties of local fruit plants in the first monsoon. Government forest nursery gives free saplings of native fruit plants.
- Mulch the plants heavily to retain as much moisture as possible. This will help some plants to thrive in summer.
- Create a thorny protective layer to protect from grazing by goats and cattle.
- Do not water the plants. Many will die but some will survive. This is a must.
- Visit every month. Don't do anything!
- By next monsoon, even if 10% plants have survived, that is a huge success.
- Repeat all above steps every year as long as you are trapped in the job.
- Within 5-10 years, you will have hundreds of big fruit trees grown with almost zero effort. Don't bother about people or animals enjoying fruits in your absence. It's ok. Don't try to fight them off. Once you have moved, people will stop taking fruits. Allow wild and free animals like monkeys and birds to continue. This will be much more heavenly.
- One fine day when trees are growing and everything is getting heavenly, you get a feeling to build a home there.
- Build a small minimalistic home. This will keep things simple.
- After this you will feel like staying at night during subsequent visits. Just do it. Stay as long as you want. Don't bother about your office, project or boss. It's all a game anyway to pass the time. They will be there when you go back.
- In ten plus years, you will have your own resort created with just few lakhs.
- If you are enjoying your job, and want to continue, move into this home on retirement. Do not forget to take frequent breaks to enjoy your heaven.
- If you are not happy with job or whatever you have been doing, move into this home immediately. This is better option. You have enough clothes, ability to buy food for many years and home is ready too. If you have doubt, look into your closet, wallet, digital wallet, policies, bonds, funds, gold, and bank accounts and you will get the confirmation. If you are in debt, you need to continue the job game for more years though. But do it quick.
-On moving into your heavenly home, If there is no way of earning, just wait for few months. Something suitable for your skills and interests will present itself. Don't rush, otherwise you will end up doing something you don't like (just like all the jobs you have been doing, including the current one). If nothing clicks, ask me.
- Live a simple life. Eat plenty of fruits. Do not bring your television to this home.
- You will possibly live peacefully and hit a century too.
ALL THE BEST.
